As our Vietnamese culture (or Chinese), Rat is the first zodiac sign of 12 astrological animals. People born in the Year of the Rat are noted for their charm and attraction to the opposite sex. They work hard to achieve their goals, acquire possessions and are likely to be perfectionists. They are basically thrifty with money. Rat people are easily angered and love to gossip. Their ambitions are big, and they are usually very successful. They are most compatible with people born in the years of the Dragon, Monkey, and Ox.
Amigurumi rat is a lovely gift to make for people born in January or the years of Rat (1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020). Nothing precious than a present made with love! Are you excited?

What is Zodiac amigurumi crochet along?
CAL: You guys might be familiar with the concept of crochet along (CAL). But for those who never know about this kind of event, technically CAL is an event that people will crochet a project together as parts of the patterns are revealed throughout the event.
2021 Zodiac Amigurumi Crochet Along (ZODIACCAL): This mouse amigurumi is the first pattern inside the 2021 year-long event in which we will crochet a Vietnamese zodiac animal every month in 2021. You can read more about 2021 events here.

Increase and invisible decrease crochet
MATERIALS AND TOOLS
- DK yarn in white and pink
- 2.5mm hook
- 7mm or 8mm safety eyes
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Polyfill
- Stitch marker
ABBREVIATIONS
I use symbol abbreviations based on US term
You might not use all the abbreviations in the amigurumi crochet pattern but I still want to show you all just to refer. They are all easy to remember and follow.
MR: magic ring
CH: chain
X: Single crochet
T: half double crochet
F: double crochet
E: Triple crochet
V: Increase (make 2 stitches from 1 stitch) – W: Increase 2 (make 3 stitches from 1 stitch)
A: Decrease (make 1 stitch from 2 stitches) – M: Decrease (make 1 stitch from 3 stitches)
TV, FV, EV: Increase with half double crochet, double crochet, and triple crochet
TA, FA, EA: Decrease with half double crochet, double crochet, and triple crochet
BLO: Back loop only
FLO: Front loop only
SS: slip stitch
FO: Fasten off
St/Sts: Stitch/Stitches

Insert safety eyes between rows 7-8, 7 sts apart

Stuff the head and body

Stuff firmly and use the yarn needle to close the opening.
Make the body flat: Pull the yarn tail upward to the top of the head, then pull a little bit and tie up.

Sew the ears to the head at row 5, opposite each other across the MR
Sew the arms to the body at row 11-13, 9sts apart
